A Life Update!

Wow – it’s been a while since I’ve published a blog post! And it feels SO good to be back at it again! After a very inconsistent year of blogging, I will FINALLY be returning to my normal weekly blogging schedule! But before I return to my normal content, I wanted to update you all on what’s been going on in my life over the past year, because a LOT has happened! If you’d rather wait to see my normal nutrition-related content, come back next week for my usual topics! But if you’re interested in my life updates, you’re in luck! Keep reading! (:

Finished my MSDI

That’s right folks! After 5 and a half absolutely amazing (and brutal) years at SLU, I finally finished school for good in August! For those of you who are unfamiliar with what an MSDI is, it stands for Master’s of Science/Dietetic Internship. This was an intensive 15-month program that began the week after my undergraduate graduation. It involved 32 hours per week in hospital rotations along with evening classes and weekly internship sessions. So it’s been hectic, to say the least, but such a rewarding and enlightening experience. So I now have my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nutrition!

Got Married

About 2 weeks after finishing my program, I got married to the most amazing man in the entire world. It was magical.

Moved Across the Country to NYC

5 days after our wedding, my husband, our cat Gracie, and I all loaded into the car and drove from Missouri to New York, where we moved into our two-bedroom apartment on the beach in Queens.

Started a Full-Time Job as a Dietitian

A week after moving to NYC, I started my first job as a full-time clinical dietitian at a long-term care facility. I absolutely love what I do and really feel like I am able to make a difference in the day-to-day lives of my patients.

Passed my RD Exam!!!

Last but not least, after two months of working my new job and studying every waking moment that I wasn’t at work, I finally took my RD exam AND I PASSED!!! My 5 and a half years of school was all leading up to this moment, and I am finally a Registered Dietitian! I don’t usually get test anxiety, but I must say I was extremely nervous for this one. So it’s a huge relief to have it behind me!

I’ve gotten a lot of request to share my study tips with fellow RD2Bs. So next week’s post will include everything that I used to study along with tips on how to study while working full-time. Stay tuned if you’re interested!

Whew, ok that’s all the updates I have for now! This has by far been the craziest, busiest, most hectic year of my entire life. And while I loved (almost) every minute of it, I’m so excited to celebrate the year’s end and to see what’s next in store! Talk to you soon! (:

  1. Bravo from mom! It is terrific to see you reach this point, after that day many years back when you left Johnson & Wales camp knowing you wanted to study nutrition! Your determination speaks volumes and promises a meaningful and fulfilling career helping people find and maintain good health!
