Reflecting on My First Year of Blogging

It’s officially been 1 year since I started My Food Farmacy! And it’s been a crazy one! I want to start by saying THANK YOU to all my readers!!! It means so much to me that I have such a wonderful support system and following! I wouldn’t have the motivation to keep doing this without you all!

I wanted to write a quick post just reflecting on my first year of blogging, touching on some of the things I’ve learned, some of the things I’ve loved, and things that I may be able to share with new bloggers.

Everyone Can Have A Voice and Be Heard

Something I’ve found to be really amazing through blogging is that I can express my opinion, however unpopular it may be. No one “edits” it, no one tells me how to write it. It’s completely up to me. And anyone can do it! If you feel you have something to say, say it! That’s the beauty of blogging!

Planning is Importanttempimageforsave

When I first started my blog, I really didn’t know what a “normal” blogging schedule looked like. Because of the planning nerd I am, I immediately did a lot of research on ways to successfully plan when you have a blog. There really isn’t one set way that works for everyone. You just kind of have to figure out what works best for you and your schedule. I decided to publish one post a week and it’s been doable. Definitely a good amount of extra work each week, but for me, it’s worth it! You may want to do more, you may want to do less. But either way, make a plan and stick to it. Readers like to see consistently well thought-out content. Plus if you have a strict schedule that you plan out ahead of time, it’s something to keep you accountable!

You Now Have a Place to Archive Your Work

One of the things I’ve really loved about having a blog is being able to share it with people! I love having just a one-line “word” (MyFoodFarmacy.com) where someone can go and find a ton of work I’ve done. Because my blogging topic is related to my profession as a dietitian, I am even able to share it on a professional level. It’s important to publish work that you’re proud of. And when you are, you’ll be excited to have a place to share it!

Don’t Half-Ass It

This may seem like an obvious thing to [not] do when you’re starting a blog. But believe me, you will be tempted to half-ass a post here and there. You will be tempted to skip the extensive research needed to back your claims. You will be tempted to skip a week or two of content. But don’t give in. One of the most rewarding parts of blogging is the feeling of accomplishment and pride you have when you’ve successfully followed through and made your dream site a reality. And you won’t get there by half-assing.

If You Choose a Topic That You’re Passionate About, Blogging Won’t Feel Like Work

As anyone who reads this blog knows, I love discussing the topic of nutrition. So choosing to make my blog nutrition-focused was kind of a no-brainer. I actually have a lot of fun doing research and writing my posts each week, even if it means I’m sacrificing some free time to do it. If you know that there is a topic that you could talk infinitely about because of how interested you are, blogging about it won’t be difficult.

Make Your Site a Pure Representation of Youfullsizeoutput_68

To be honest, I absolutely love going onto my site and just bopping around. Because it’s just so me. I feel like my personality comes out in every part of it, from my posts to my site design. If you want something that’s all yours, have lots to share, and love having complete creative control, blogging might just be for you!

I know this was kind of a random compilation of my thoughts about blogging. But hopefully it gave you some insight! Thinking of starting a blog? What topic are you passionate about? Always feel free to reach out and chat with me!

And thanks again to all my amazing readers for sticking with me through this year. On to year number 2!
