Homemade Applesauce with No Added Sugar

It’s finally starting to feel like fall here in Missouri. (We get a bit of a late start here, and I’m not a fan.) So I figured it was a fitting time to dust off my homemade applesauce recipe and share it with you! I love this recipe because it only has 3 ingredients, none of which are added sugar! It’s also incredibly easy, and something fun to do in the kitchen on a brisk fall weekend.tempImageForSave

Ingredients:

*makes about 6 servings

  • 3 pounds apples, peeled and diced (I like to use honeycrisp.)
  • 1 cup water
  • a few dashes of cinnamon

Directions:

  • Peel and dice apples and put them in a pot. (Here I left the skin on for some added texture and fiber, but feel free to peel if that’s your preference!)tempimageforsave1.jpg

  • Place the pot of the stove and add water.tempImageForSave

  • Turn the heat on high just until the water starts to boil. Then turn it to low and let it simmer.tempimageforsave3-e1540324368935.jpg

  • As apples and water are simmering, add cinnamon.tempImageForSave

  • Let the apples sit for about 35 minutes, checking on them and stirring them occasionally. Once they start to soften, mash them until they reach the desired consistency.tempImageForSave

  • Enjoy as is, or topped with your favorite granola or nuts! (I really like to put my granola on it to add some flavor and texture. It makes you feel like you’re eating apple crisp!)tempimageforsave-e1540324884997.jpg
