Welcome Fellow Foodies!

Hello and welcome to Georgia Haas Nutrition!

Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself. I am a Registered Dietitian with my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Nutrition and Dietetics from Saint Louis University. I am currently based in St. Louis, Missouri, where I live with my husband, Gabe. I am the founder and CEO of Georgia Haas Nutrition LLC, a virtual nutrition practice, where I help women to heal their relationship with food and learn to properly nourish their bodies. I have many passions that include encouraging others to live healthy lifestyles, promoting a locally-sourced plant-based diet, discrediting faulty diet advice, and trying to live sustainably.

In this age of rapid information, it is easy to be misled by unsound diet advice. Authors, bloggers, and even researchers are obsessed with telling the public what they want to hear, whether it’s true or not. But the truth is, there is no magic pill for a healthy life; there’s no one-size-fits-all diet. It is through our want of diet standardization that we fail. Every individual is unique, and their diet should be too. What works well for some may be completely wrong for others. I believe that it is essential to listen to the needs of your body and fuel it accordingly. This is truly the way to optimum health.

I am a huge proponent of being healthy through food first, medicine second. And by this I mean using food as a form of preventative medicine itself, and preventing health complications down the line by providing our bodies with the proper nutrition today.

I hope you’ll join me as I delve into current issues and ideas related to nutrition, sustainability, fitness, and wellness. Questions or suggestions? Leave me a comment! 1. I love your approach to good health via food first, medicine second. Your writing style is easy reading.
You might want to explain what you mean by ‘listen to your body’ because there are times when people believe that they can ‘feel’ the multivitamin that they just consumed.
I know that you’ve heard this before but I’m a strong proponent of people eat foods not nutrients – so I always try to be mindful of how often I use the terms ‘nutrients’ and diet ( I try to talk about healthy eating habits and food choices instead).
I look forward to receiving notification of your blog posts – I love Georgia’s Food Farmacy!

    • Yes of course. The ability to listen to your body accurately is something that takes practice. Knowing when you are full and when you are hungry can be thrown off sometimes when we lose touch with our satiety cues. Also, it’s important to know how many calories are best for your weight and height, but also for you personally. Everyone has a different set point, which needs to be taken into account. Mainly what I was referring to when I said “listen to your body” is to know when a diet feels right or not. If you know that you feel sick when you have dairy, then try not having dairy for a few days and see how your body responds. But if you know that your body reacts well to dairy products, there is no reason to cut it out of your diet. The same can be said for other groups of food too.

  2. Loving this blog. I so agree with you that what is good for one person might not be good for others. This is the approach to take. All the very best with your studies and with your blog too.

  3. I have always wanted to learn more about nutrition but can never seem to find the time so your blog sounds perfect. I look forward to reading through all your posts. 🙂
